On Tuesday, Sept. 16, community advocates from Bucks County Indivisible, Make the Road Pennsylvania, and the ACLU of Pennsylvania will rally and hold a press conference outside the Bucks County courthouse to address the human and financial cost of 287(g) agreements.

The ACLU-PA will maintain its argument that the Free and Equal Elections Clause of the Pennsylvania Constitution protects voters from being disenfranchised for meaningless paperwork mistakes.

The ACLU of Pennsylvania argues that both the non-disruptive library protest and the open advocacy letter are free speech protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

"The president cannot override our Pennsylvania Constitution, which is clear: locking people up simply because they can’t afford to pay is not justice."

ACLU of Pennsylvania’s lawsuit against Pottsgrove Township seeks to recoup the attorney fees that Mr. Murray incurred as a result of the township’s lawsuit against him.  

The ACLU of Pennsylvania and the Community Justice Project have filed a lawsuit in the Court of Common Pleas of Bucks County against Bucks County Sheriff Fred Harran after the sheriff unilaterally and illegally entered into an agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, seeking to effectively deputize local law enforcement to operate as immigration agents.

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania dismissed as moot a motion for a temporary restraining order asking the court to prohibit the Souderton Area School District from enforcing a ban on two parents and a former student from attending school board meetings.

ACLU-PA filed a federal free speech lawsuit against the University of Pittsburgh on behalf of Students for Justice in Palestine at Pitt (SJP-Pitt), a student organization recently placed on an indefinite, interim suspension by the school in apparent retaliation for the club’s political speech.

At a state capitol press conference today in Harrisburg, the American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania demanded more funding for indigent defense, saying that the commonwealth is failing its constitutional obligation to provide representation for people who cannot afford a criminal lawyer.
