The Clara Bell Duvall Reproductive Freedom Project offers graduate and undergraduate internships during the academic year and the summer in the ACLU of Pennsylvania's Philadelphia office. (Law students interested in reproductive justice issues should apply through the ACLU-PA legal department.

Interns work on substantive projects and their voices and ideas play a critical role in the Duvall Project's work. An emphasis on collaborative work provides excellent training and mentoring opportunities for interns. By cultivating the skills and dedication of our interns we help create long-term, powerful advocates of social change and reproductive freedom.

The Duvall Project seeks interns with a commitment to reproductive justice, as reflected in their volunteer activities and/or coursework. Excellent research and writing skills are a must. Interns must be able to commit to a minimum of 5 hours per week for a semester or a summer.

The Duvall Project is a recognized field placement for:

  • University of Pennsylvania Social Policy and Practice
  • Temple University, Women and Gender Studies Department and School of Social Work
  • Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research
  • Northeastern Co-op Program
  • Other interns have worked with the Duvall Project while pursuing MPH degrees from Johns Hopkins University, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, UMDNJ, and Tufts University.
  • Law students interested in reproductive justice should apply through ACLU-PA legal department

Internship opportunities are available at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Duvall Project also welcomes volunteers not affiliated with a school or university.

Compensation

As a small, nonprofit organization, the Duvall Project typically does not receive funding for interns. Many colleges and universities offer stipends or work-study arrangements for students wishing to pursue internships like those offered by Duvall. It is also possible to seek support from outside foundations, scholarships, and grants. Summer interns work at the Duvall Project a minimum of 15 to 20 hours per week, allowing them to hold part-time, paid employment while continuing their commitment to reproductive freedom.
