ACLU-PA Position: Opposes

HB 1422 lowers the grading for possession of less than 30 grams of marijuana from a misdemeanor to a summary offense. It also changes the fine structure for the offense from the current maximum fine of $500 with no minimum and no increase for multiple offenses to a $500 minimum fine with no maximum for the first offense, $750 minimum for the second offense, and $1000 minimum for the third offense.
