Trans Justice

The ACLU-PA has recognized the urgent need for more education and advocacy around transgender rights and lived experience of Transgender Pennsylvanians, especially given the lack of non-discrimination protections here in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

The Trans Justice Initiative aims to work with partnering groups to pave the way for the passage of statewide, comprehensive non-discrimination protections, which is a top priority for the ACLU of Pennsylvania and an issue we have worked on for more than a decade. We are committed to supporting and building the leadership of transgender communities in this process. Together, ACLU-PA and transgender Pennsylvanians will engage in public education, strategic communications and direct advocacy and lobbying to create a more just climate for affirming policy outcomes in the state.

State Senate Passes Bill Banning Transgender Students from School Sports Just Weeks Before May Primaries

The state Senate passed Senate Bill 1293, legislation that would ban participation in school sports by transgender students in public schools and state-funded universities and colleges.
