On June 15, 2005, the U.S. House of Representatives adopted the Freedom to Read proposal offered by Representative Bernie Sanders of Vermont. This legislation denies funding for FBI access to library and bookstore records under section 215 of the Patriot Act. A bipartisan majority (238-187) voted for this measure. The ACLU strongly supports the Freedom to Read proposal.
Pennsylvania's Congressional delegation split on this issue. Below we have listed how our delegation voted. We have sent letters on behalf of all of the members of the ACLU of Pennsylvania to each of these members of Congress. It would be great if you could follow up with your own member of Congress by letting him/her know what you think of his/her vote and asking them to support further reforms of the Patriot Act.
