Legislation in Pennsylvania General Assembly on Real ID

The 2007-08 session of the Pennsylvania General Assembly officially ends on November 30.  In June, the House of Representatives unanimously passed House Bill 2537 (click here for full text).  This bill would block the commonwealth from seeking certification in Real ID.  Unfortunately, the Senate did not take up HB 2537 and has no scheduled voting days remaining this session.

The 2009-10 session will begin in late January.  The deadline for states to opt-in to Real ID is December 31, 2009, and ACLU-PA plans to push hard for a bill to block Real ID in PA when the legislature returns.

Check back here for updates when the 2009-10 session begins.
