The voter ID law will NOT be in effect for the November 5, 2013, election. Voters will be asked to show photo ID but will still be allowed to cast their ballots without it.
If you experience or witness problems on election day, such as misleading signs at a polling place indicating photo is required to vote, please report it immediately to the Election Protection Hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683).
Voter ID Lawsuit
In May 2012 the ACLU of Pennsylvania, the Advancement Project, the Public Interest Law Center of Philadelphia (PILCOP), and the Washington, DC law firm of Arnold & Porter LLP filed a lawsuit in the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania to overturn the voter ID law. The law was temporarily blocked from enforcement for the November 2012, May 2013 primary, and November 2013 elections. We are currently awaiting a decision on our request for a permanent injunction. A decision is expected to be announced sometime in the fall of 2013. That decision can be appealed.
