Emergency Contraception

• ABC-TV's Boston Legal "Smile" Episode (DVD) - One of the issues addressed in the "Smile" episode (air date 2/14/06) is access to emergency contraception (EC) in hospital emergency rooms for women who have been raped. When Amelia is brought to a local Catholic hospital following a sexual assault, her request for EC is denied. Unable to access EC in time for it to be effective, Amelia finds herself pregnant and decides to take her case public by suing the hospital. With the permission of David E. Kelley Productions, the Duvall Project has created a lending library for individuals and organizations to use in hosting an educational event. Click here for more information and to request a copy.
• RaisingHerVoice.org Posters and Pamphlets - RaisingHerVoice.org is a website created by the Duvall Project and launched in November 2005. This website serves as a resource for survivors of sexual assault, their support network (including counselors, advocates, family, friends), and the general public. RaisingHerVoice.org presents the personal accounts of how emergency contraception played a role following sexual assault and provides information and additional resources. We welcome your assistance in getting the word out about this website. Abortion Access

• Motherless: A Legacy of Loss from Illegal Abortion, 1994 (DVD and VHS) - This half hour documentary film by Philadelphia filmmakers Janet Goldwater and Barbara Attie explores the tragedy of death from unsafe, illegal abortion. Four individuals, including Duvall Project founder Linn Duvall Harwell, discuss hte trauma of loving and then losing a mother at a young age due to complications from abortion prior to Roe v. Wade. Linn's mother, Clara Bell Duvall, died at the age of 34 after attempting to terminate her pregnancy and left five young children who were subsequently separated and sent to live with various family members. With personal accounts, supplemented by social and historical context, the film offers a unique insight into the human tragedies resulting from illegal or inaccessible abortion. With the permission of the filmmakers, the Duvall Project can lend either a DVD or VHS copy for interested parties to use for educational purposes.
