Stand Up Against Violence

Boston Legal's "Smile" Episode

On the evening of February 14, the ABC-TV show Boston Legal will be airing its "Smile" episode.  This episode features the story of a rape patient who was taken to a Catholic hospital and, during the course of her treatment, was denied emergency contraception.  Unfortunately, this scenario is not uncommon.  Studies show that many Catholic and secular hospitals do not provide emergency contraception to rape patients despite its status as a safe, effective, FDA-approved means of preventing pregnancy.

You can help raise awareness about this important issue by hosting or attending a Boston Legal Viewing Party!  The Duvall Project created a toolkit that will help facilitate discussion and provide supplemental information about emergency contraception and sexual assault.  To find out more information and to access the toolkit, visit www.raisinghervoice.org/getinvolved/events/bostonlegal.html.

The "Smile" episode will air at 10pm EST on ABC.

V-Day

February 14 is V-Day, a global campaign to stop violence against women and girls.  Organizations around the world mark this day with events, education campaigns and programs including performances of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues.  To participate or learn more about V-Day events in your community, visit www.vday.org/contents/action/events.
